Anima - 2015
Anima, an immersive group exhibition organised at The Invisible Dog Art Center in New York in 2016, sprang from Prune Nourry's encounter with the anthropologist and playwright Valentine Losseau, who has spent eight years working among the Lacandons, descendants of the Maya Indians living in the Mexico's Chiapas jungle. After two visits to the region, they invited the artist Takao Shiraishi, magicians Raphaël Navarro and Étienne Saglio from the Compagnie 14:20, and set designer Benjamin Gabrié to create a multi-sensory installation focusing on K'in Obregon, an enigmatic figure from this animist tribe, who was exhibited in a "human zoo" at the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris. Years after being officially declared dead, K'in Obregon reappeared in the midst of his community.
