Strand for Women - 2023
On 16 September 2022, Mahsa Amini, a young Iranian woman of Kurdish origin aged twenty-two, was beaten to death in Tehran by the morality police for a lock of hair protruding from her hijab. The tragedy sparked a wave of demonstrations across the country, which were violently repressed for several months. The #WomanLifeFreedom movement was born. When the people of Iran invited all those in favour of democracy and women's rights to support this peaceful uprising, artists from all over the world expressed their support, notably by filming themselves cutting off a lock of hair. Prune Nourry, who has had a personal hair collection since 2007, responded to this appeal by proposing a worldwide, participatory work of art.
